At Mitchell Plastering & Dry Lining Ltd, we take pride in delivering comprehensive floor screeding solutions that combine efficiency with exceptional quality.

Recently, we completed a flooring project in Draycott for one of our regular builder clients, demonstrating our expertise in liquid anhydrite screed and underfloor heating systems.

Initial Preparation

This particular project involved transforming a 70m2 property with a complete floor screeding system that would provide both thermal efficiency and a perfectly level surface for the final flooring.

Our team began by conducting a site assessment to determine the specific requirements and challenges we would face during the installation process.

The builder had specifically requested our services due to our proven track record in delivering high-quality results within tight timeframes. We understood that the property needed to be ready for occupancy quickly, which meant our screed installation had to be completed efficiently whilst maintaining our rigorous quality standards.

Flooring Membrane Installation

We started the process by laying a polythene DPM (damp proof membrane) across the entire floor area. This crucial first step protects the property from moisture ingress and provides a stable foundation for the subsequent layers.

Our team meticulously sealed all joints using specialist tape, creating a completely watertight barrier that would prevent any potential moisture problems in the future.

Following the DPM installation, we fitted 150mm PIR insulation boards across the entire floor area. This substantial insulation layer provides excellent thermal performance, significantly reducing heat loss and improving the overall energy efficiency of the property. The PIR insulation works in conjunction with the underfloor heating system to create an optimally heated environment whilst minimising energy consumption.

Underfloor Heating Installation

The next phase involved installing an 8 port manifold wet underfloor heating system throughout the property. Our experienced technicians carefully positioned the heating pipes according to the predetermined layout, making sure that heat distribution would be even across all areas of the floor.

Once the pipe network was complete, we conducted comprehensive pressure testing to verify the system's integrity. This step guarantees that there are no leaks or weak points in the installation, preventing costly repairs or system failures after completion. The system was fully pressurised and tested multiple times to meet industry standards and our own quality requirements.

We maintained the system under pressure throughout the screeding process, allowing us to immediately identify any potential issues before they could become problematic.

Liquid Anhydrite Screed Application

With the underfloor heating system successfully installed and tested, we proceeded to apply the 50mm liquid anhydrite screed layer. This advanced screeding material offers superior flow characteristics compared to traditional sand and cement screeds, resulting in a perfectly level surface with minimal manual intervention.

The liquid anhydrite screed provides excellent thermal conductivity, making it ideal for use with underfloor heating systems. The material flows around the heating pipes, creating optimal contact and maximising heat transfer efficiency. This results in faster warm-up times and more responsive temperature control for the property occupants.

Project Completion

One of the most impressive aspects of this project was our ability to complete the entire installation within a single visit. Our team worked systematically through each phase of the process, from the initial DPM installation through to the final screed application, without requiring multiple site visits or extended timescales.

This efficiency meant that the property was ready for the customer to return the following day, minimising disruption and allowing the builder to maintain their project schedule. The quick-drying properties of liquid anhydrite screed contributed significantly to this rapid turnaround time.

The completed installation provides the property with an energy-efficient heating system that will deliver consistent warmth throughout the space whilst maintaining low running costs.

Our comprehensive approach to floor screeding with underfloor heating demonstrates why builders throughout Derbyshire continue to choose Mitchell Plastering & Dry Lining Ltd for their most demanding projects.
